Kangen is a trademark of Enagic Inc. of Japan where more research has been done on drinking water than anywhere else. Kangen has become a household word in Japan and is now used mostly to describe pure, healthy, alkaline drinking water which is rich in minerals, purged of impurities, and ionized through a Water Ionizer electrolysis to obtain active hydrogen which is abundant in “extra” electrons. These extra electrons impart strong anti-oxidant properties to the drinking water.
Therapy using both alkaline and acidic water for both external and internal use has been recognized as a valid medical treatment in Japan since the 1960s and it is practiced in many of Japan’s leading hospitals.
All kinds of treatments have had dramatic results and the fortunate hospital patients asked how they could continue their safe, healthy, beneficial water treatment at home. They were told they could not. Enagic recognized a potential large market where both the company and its customers could benefit greatly, so they researched the ability to make a consumer unit to produce Kangen water in the home. They succeeded beyond their expectations and were able to develop machines that could be sold to consumers for the same cost as many other home water filtration systems and less thatn other Water Ionizer.
Electrolysis is the process that separates water into alkaline and acidic water. The desired pH level of the resulting water can be selected by the operator of the Water Ionizer.
The pH of the alkaline and acidic water will always add up to 14. Therefore, if ideal drinking water of pH 9.5 is selected, medium acidic water of pH 4.5 (used mainly for skin care) will also be produced. If strong acidic water of pH 2.5 (a strong disinfectant with many important uses) is selected, strong Kangen water of pH 11.5 (a powerful solvent used mainly for cleaning) will also be produced.
Neutral water of pH 7 (filtered for purity, but not ionized) can also be produced, but its only important use is for taking prescription medication and it is not a subject of the videos.
Kangen Water – An Antioxidant
Kangen water is perhaps more powerful than any single food or vitamin supplement, because it contains active hydrogen which supplies huge amounts of extra electrons to our body. Most water electrolysis equipment will not create active hydrogen in the water, therefore, the equipment merely produces ionized alkaline water, not Kangen water. In fact, the antioxidant potential of a single glass of Kangen water would cost several dollars to duplicate with vitamin supplements and they would never be absorbed by our body the way water is.
In fact, Kangen water is so powerful as an antioxidant that your body will no longer have to use up calcium to supply electrons to free radicals. One of the movies to come later will show how your body retaining more calcium will lead to weight loss.

Claims and evidence
In the United States we are not allowed to claim that Kangen water will actually do all of those things. However, the benefits of reducing our body’s acidity has long been recognized in the medical profession even in the United States.
