For a fuel to burn efficiently, low levels of moisture are required, as high levels of moisture stop the fire reaching high ignition temperatures. This is why pellet stoves are so a good deal more efficient than log stoves. Typically seasoned logs are around 30%, where pellets are below 10% moisture. Pellets also have a much higher density than logs. These two factors are crucial to the increased combustion efficiency of pellets.
